CPA experience.
A practical perspective on AI.
CPA ReWired helps CPAs build practical AI skills and rethink how work gets done. Its approach brings together professional education, process redesign, and governance, grounded in the realities of accounting practice.
Meet Malik Datardina, CPA, CA, CISA
Malik has spent over two decades at the intersection of accounting and technology, from foundational IT audit and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) through audit data analytics and, most recently, applied generative AI. That path grounds his work in the practical realities of the profession: he knows what it takes to get a new technology past the partner group, the audit file, and the regulator.
Through CPA ReWired, he works with accounting firms and finance teams on AI-enabled process reengineering. His focus is on the workflow, not the prompt: identifying where GenAI can remove real friction from knowledge work, where it cannot, and how to put the right guardrails around it. He also serves as an advisory consultant to CPA Ontario on its AI, data, and governance professional development, and delivers training to CPAs across Canada.
Before founding his current practice, Malik was Senior AI Product Manager at Auvenir, a Deloitte-owned start-up, where he applied GenAI to audit software and previously led strategy, compliance, and internal audit as the company's GRC Strategist. Earlier, as Senior Manager of Audit Innovation at Deloitte, he assessed the implications of blockchain, artificial intelligence, and crowdsourcing for the CPA profession, and led projects including visualized analytics in audit and IBM Watson in audit. His consulting background includes IT audit, SOX compliance, and data governance work at Canada's major banks.
Malik is a frequent author and speaker on technology in accounting. His CPA Canada article explaining ChatGPT to the profession ranked as the third most-read CPA Canada article of 2023, and he has published with CPA Canada, CICA, and ISACA on cloud computing, information integrity, and IT control frameworks. He serves on the IAASB's Technology Consultation Group and CPA Canada's Audit and Assurance Technology Committee.
He is also an Assistant Professor (Teaching Stream) in Emerging Technologies at the University of Waterloo's School of Accounting and Finance.
